Monster Air

Malam itu Vero lagi-lagi dimarahi oleh mamanya. Pasalnya, dia melakukan kesalahan yang sama berulang-ulang yaitu lupa mematikan kran air tiap habis menggosok gigi di wastafel. Tapi untaian kata-kata dari sang mama sepertinya selalu masuk ke telinga kuping kiri dan keluar lewat kuping kanan. Entah kenapa kebiasaan buruknya yang satu itu sulit sekali dihilangkan. Mau tidak mau sang mama harus rajin mengecek wastafel di depan kamar mandi yang terletak di sebelah kanan kamar Vero tiap pagi dan malam.
Sang mama sampai gregetan sendiri, sebab putri bungsunya itu tidak kunjung sadar kalau air bersih saat ini kian langka. Memang di daerah rumah mereka air tanahnya masih bersih dan melimpah sehingga penduduk yang tinggal di daerah tersebut bisa menghambur-hamburkan air sesuka hati. “Kamu tahu nggak Nak? Di banyak tempat lain air bersih sangat sulit didapat. Orang-orang harus membeli air yang dijual per jerigen. Bahkan di beberapa daerah yang kekeringan mereka harus jalan kaki berkilo-kilo meter hanya demi mendapatkan satu atau dua ember air!” kata mamanya Vero. Sudah berulang kali ia mengingatkan hal yang sama tersebut. “Kalau bukan kamu yang melestarikan sumber daya alam dari sekarang, lantas bagaimana nanti anak cucu kamu? Apa sulitnya sih menutup kran air? Nggak perlu tenaga besar juga kok,” tambahnya.
“Ok Ma, besok aku nggak ngulangin lagi,” janjinya. “Hoaammm…” Vero mulai mengantuk. Ia ingin malam itu cepat berganti pagi, karena besok rencananya akan pergi ke pantai bersama kedua kakaknya (Tora dan Anggi) untuki menghadiri pesta ulang tahun sahabatnya Tora yang bernama Didit sekaligus mengisi weekend. Kebetulan keluarganya Didit mempunyai rumah di pinggir pantai dan mereka tinggal di rumah tersebut. Tora dan Didit telah bersahabat sejak TK sehingga keluarga masing-masing pun sudah akrab satu sama lain.
Vero membaringkan tubuhnya di atas kasur nan empuk. Lampu utama kamarnya dimatikan. Kini yang menyala tinggal lampu dinding yang temaram. Boneka beruang seukuran hampir sebesar tubuhnya yang berbulu pink tebal dan lembut siap menemani tidur.

Suara kicau burung gereja mulai terdengar. Matahari mulai ‘menampakkan batang hidungnya’. Anggi membuka jendela kamar adiknya. Sinar matahari yang masuk ke dalam ruang kamar membuat mata Vero silau meski masih terpejam. Terasa tidak nyaman, sehingga memaksanya untuk terjaga. “Ayo cepat mandi trus sarapan. Jadi mau ikut ke pantai nggak?” tanya Anggi, kakak keduanya yang setahun lagi akan lulus SMU.
“Oh iya, asyiiik…! Aku mandi dulu ya Kak,” sahut Vero bersemangat. Ia segera beranjak dari tempat tidurnya.
Usai mandi, Vero melahap setangkap roti tawar isi keju dan selai serta segelas susu coklat. Setelah selesai sarapan, Vero dan kedua kakaknya bersiap-siap untuk berangkat ke pantai sesuai rencana. Pagi itu Vero selamat dari omelan sang mama. Tapi bukan karena ia ingat untuk menutup kran, melainkan karena tadi Anggi yang telah menutupnya sebelum ketahuan mamanya. Kan nggak lucu kalau acara weekend harus rusak cuma gara-gara ulah ceroboh adiknya yang pelupa itu.
Vero, Tora dan Anggi berangkat ke pantai di pinggiran kota dengan mobilnya Tora. Sebuah mobil antik yang setahun lalu dibeli dalam keadaan butut, tapi sekarang sudah tampak kinclong karena telah dibetulkan dan direnovasi sana-sini.. Dalam waktu satu setengah jam mereka telah sampai di tujuan. Mereka sengaja datang pagi karena ingin membantu Didit mempersiapkan acara. Namun caranya sendiri akan dimulai nanti setelah matahari tenggelam.
Ketika sampai di lokasi, Tora dan Anggi langsung berinisiatif membantu mempersiapkan segala sesuatunya mulai dari makanan, minuman, sound system dan sebagainya. Sedangkan Vero diam-diam kabur untuk bermain air di pantai bersama Milo, anjingnya Didit yang memang sudah akrab dengannya. Vero mengajak Milo bermain di tempat yang jaraknya lumayan jauh dari rumah Didit, dengan maksud supaya tidak ketahuan. Ia pun tidak membawa ponselnya, sebab Tora pasti akan meneleponnya begitu tahu kalau adik bungsunya itu ‘menghilang’. Padahal Vero tidak mau diganggu.
Milo mengejar-ngejar Vero dengan riang dan bersemangat di tepi pantai. Ia mengincar bola plastik yang dipegang Vero. Air laut membasahi kaki mereka. Karena tak kunjung mendapatkan bola itu, Milo pun menubruk Vero hingga terjatuh, akhirnya belia usia 15 tahun itu basah kuyup. Tapi ia senang. Derai tawa menghiasi wajahnya yang imut-imut. Terik sinar matahari nan panas tak mengurangi kesenangan sama sekali. Mereka benar-benar gembira. Keduanya menghabiskan waktu dengan bermain apa saja, mulai dari membuat istana pasir, mencari keong, sampai balapan renang.
Sewaktu mereka lagi asyik berenang, tiba-tiba Milo merasa gelisah. Tak lama kemudian Vero mendengar suara gemuruh dari kejauhan. Suara tersebut kian lama kian jelas terdengar. “Ada apa ini?” Vero merasa jantungnya tiba-tiba berdegup kencang. Ia dapat ‘mencium’ bahaya yang datang. “Wah, jangan-jangan Tsunami? Milo, ayo kabuuuurr…..!” teriak Vero di saat suara itu makin memekkakan telinga.
Sekuat tenaga Vero dan Milo berusaha mencapai tepi pantai. Namun mendadak dari lautan keluar sebuah mahluk yang seluruh badannya terdiri dari air. Ukurannya besar, sangat besar! Dia adalah Monster Air! Bentuknya sangat mirip dengan monster yang kadang suka muncul di dalam mimpi Vero. Gadis itu tidak menyangka kalau mimpi bisa jadi kenyataan (masa sih?). Sungguh menyeramkan…
Tangan monster raksasa itu segera menangkap tubuh Vero. Namun untungnya Milo berhasil lolos. Hewan berbulu putih tersebut ketakutan luar biasa., ia menyalak dengan panik, “Guk…guk..guk…!” terus-menerus seraya meminta supaya si monster mau melepaskan Vero dari genggamannya.
“Tolong…! Tolong…! Milo, cepat lari ke rumah Kak Didit dan minta bantuan!” teriak Vero dengan napas terengah-engah. Tangan monster itu seakan siap mencekiknya.
Milo segera bergegas berlari menuju rumah Didit. Namun si monster segera berusaha menangkapnya dan berhasil! “Hahaha…mau kemana kau anjing kecil? Kau tidak akan bisa lolos dariku, huahaha…!” tawanya menggelegar. Anehnya, suara yang keras itu tidak terdengar sama sekali di telinga Tora, Anggi, Didit maupun keluarganya. Monster tersebut memang memiliki magic supaya kehadirannya tidak diketahui orang lain, sebab ia hanya mengincar Vero. Kalaupun ia kemudian menangkap Milo itu karena terpaksa, soalnya Milo mau kabur untuk mencari bantuan.
“Apa maumu? Lepaskan aku!” bentak Vero.
“Aku ingin memakanmu anak bandel…” jawab si monster.
“Memangnya apa salahku? Kenapa kau ingin memakanku?”
“Ah, rupanya gadis kecil ini tidak tahu kesalahannya ya? Coba biar kuperjelas. Kesalahanmu adalah karena kamu selalu membuang-buang air dengan percuma! Itu salahmu! Aku mewakili komunitas air di alam semesta ini akan menghabisimu sebagai hukuman atas ulahmu itu… Kami tidak terima disia-siakan oleh manusia seperti kamu!” kata monster itu geram.
Verio memohon dengan gemetaran, “Tidak, jangan makan aku. Tolong ampuni aku. Selama ini aku khilaf,”
Tapi percuma, “Sudah terlambat untuk minta ampun. Bukankah sudah berkali-kali kau diingatkan oleh mamamu supaya jangan pernah lupa menutup kran air? Tapi apa hasilnya? Kamu tidak pernah menuruti kata-kata mamamu. Jadi sekarang rasakan pembalasanku!”
“Tidak!!! Dasar monster jelek!” Vero meronta-ronta, berusaha meloloskan diri. “Milo, tolong aku!” tapi Milo pun tak berdaya dalam genggaman si monster. Anjing lucu itu malahan sudah pingsan duluan.
Monster Air itu mulai membuka mulutnya. Kemudian ia mendekatkan tangan kanannnya yang berisi tubuh Vero mendekati mulutnya. Tampang Vero yang pucat dan badannya yang gemetaran tidak menyurutkan niat si monster untuk melahapnya. “Ampuuun..! Aku berjanji tidak akan pernah lagi mengulangi kesalahan itu…” teriak Vero sambil memelas. “Apa aku tidak boleh minta satu kesempatan lagi? Aku tahu aku memang salah, tapi tolong berikan satu kesempatan untuk memperbaiki kesalahanku…” gadis itu sampai menangis.
Rupanya Vero berhasil membuat si monster tersentuh. Perlahan mahluk raksasa itu menjauhkan tubuh ero dari mulutnya yang super lebar. “Benar kau berjanji?”
“Iya, aku janji. Kalau sampai aku mlakukan kesalahan yang sama kau boleh mencariku lagi,” kata Vero dengan nada suara lemas.
“Baiklah kalau begitu, aku pegang kata-katamu. Tapi kau harus menepatinya. Jika tidak, aku akan menghabisimu dan tidak akan ada kata ampun lagi,”
“Ok…ok…tenang saja aku pasti tepati janji. Sekarang tolong turunkan aku dan Milo….”
Kemudian monster itu menurunkan tubuh Vero dan Milo, lalu meletakannya di bawah pohon kelapa nan rindang dengan hati-hati. Vero yang sudah kehabisan bertenaga mendadak pingsan. Ia belum sempat mengucapkan terima kasih dan kata-kata perpisahan. Monster itu sudah pergi entah kemana.
Selama berjam-jam Vero dan Milo tak sadarkan diri. Mereka seperti tertidur pulas. Tora, Anggi dan Didit sibuk mencari mereka kemana-mana. Ketika akhirnya diketemukan, Tora segera membangunkan Vero, “Eh bangun…bangun…!” namun Vero sulit dibangunkan. “Wah, ini bocah enak-enakan aja tidur padahal orang lain sibuk nyiapin pesta…” terpaksa Tora mengguyur adiknya dengan air mineral yang dibawanya dengan botol. “Byuuur…!”
“Tolooong….toloong!” teriak Vero yang terbangun sambil gelagapan. “Monster.., ada Monster Air!”
Semua orang di depan Vero melongo’ kebingungan.
