Perkebunan Stroberi
Kabut tipis menyelubungi pagi. Sang surya menyambut hari dengan malu-malu namun pasti. Langit tampak agak mendung. Dengan sweater dan syal berwarna hijau muda aku berjalan menyusuri perkebunan stroberi milik kakekku. Tak lama lagi hamparan pohon berbuah lezat di atas tanah seluas dua hektar ini kemungkinan besar akan menjadi milik orang lain. Kakek ingin menjualnya kepada salah seorang pengusaha furniture yang ingin mencoba lahan bisnis baru. Katanya, ia ingin membagikan uang hasil penjualan itu kepada anak-anaknya sebelum ‘pergi’.
Sebenarnya anak-anak maupun semua cucunya Kakek (termasuk aku) tak ada yang setuju kalau perkebunan tersebut dijual. Tapi entah mengapa Kakek begitu ngotot dengan keinginannya. Apakah karena beberapa minggu yang lalu dia kena serangan jantung dan sempat koma sehingga dia merasa hidupnya tak akan lama lagi?
Aku sangat sedih memikirkan apa yang Kakek pikirkan. Dia merasa akan segera ‘meninggalkan’ kami. Kalaupun perkebunan ini tetap jadi dijual, siapa yang akan tega menerima uang warisan dari orang yang masih hidup? Kakek pernah mengatakan padaku alasan mengapa dia harus melakukannya, ialah karena ia tak ingin sepeninggalnya kelak akan terjadi perebutan harta. “Oh Kakek, kenapa Kakek berpikir seperti itu?” air mataku perlahan jatuh. Kakek hanya tersenyum.
Laki-laki tua itu amat kusayangi karena dia selalu melimpahiku dengan kasih sayang tanpa batas sejak aku hadir ke dunia. Dia yang selalu menghibur tiap kali aku menangis gara-gara habis diomeli Mama karena kebandelanku sendiri. Biasanya, Kakek akan mengajakku berkeliling kota bersama Sir Roland, anjing St. Bernard kesayanganku dengan mobil antik kebanggaannya. Sir Roland yang selalu duduk di belakang akan mengeluarkan kepalanya lewat jendela mobil supaya angin dapat menerpa wajahnya. Anjing pintar itu memang sangat menyukai angin.
Ah, rasanya tak mungkin kuceritakan semua kisah indah bersama Kakek hanya dalam beberapa lembar kertas saja. Kasih sayangnya pun sulit untuk kulukiskan dengan kalimat-kalimat puitis sekalipun. Tak akan pernah ada kata-kata yang cukup untuk menggambarkannya. Aku tidak sanggup membayangkan bila Kakek benar-benar akan ‘meninggalkan’ kehidupan ini.
Jika saja bisa, aku ingin sekali mencegah Kakek untuk tidak menjual perkebunan stoberinya. Sebab kebun inilah yang menyatukan seluruh keluarga. Di pinggir sebelah barat kebun ini, di tanah yang terpisah dari perkebunan, Kakek membangun empat buah rumah. Yang satu untuk dia sendiri, sedangkan tiga lainnya diberikan pada anak-anaknya. Salah satu anak Kakek itu adalah ibuku. Sedangkan di antara perkebunan itu Kakek membangun sebuah restoran yang khusus menyajikan berbagai masakan Sunda. Terdapat juga lima belas kolam ikan berisi antara lain ikan mas, mujair, lele, patin dan gurame. Jadi pengunjung yang datang ke perkebunan untuk memetik buah stoberi, bisa sekalian menikmati hidangan hangat berbagai macam ikan di restoran. Restoran tersebut selalu ramai pengunjung karena terkenal dengan cita rasa masakannya yang enak

Sejak toko barang elektronik milik Om Emil bangkrut beberapa bulan yang lalu Kakek mulai berubah. Om Emil merupakan suami dari Tante Hetty. Sedangkan Tante Hetty ialah kakak kandung ibuku. Aku punya firasat Om Emil tidak sebaik kelihatannya, meskipun semua orang di keluarga mempercayainya. Dia memang dari dulu pandai ‘menjilat’. Bahkan modal untuk membuka toko barang elektroniknya saja berasal dari kantong Kakek yang ‘termakan’ rayuannya. Kini besar kemungkinan Kakek lagi-lagi kena bujuk rayu menantunya yang mata duitan itu.
Ini bukan sekedar berburuk sangka tanpa alasan. Suatu hari ketika Kakek sedang beristirahat di kamarnya tanpa sengaja kulihat Om Emil masuk ke kamar Kakek. Aku curiga kenapa pamanku itu tiba-tiba jadi perhatian pada mertuanya, padahal selama ini dia tak pernah peduli sedikit pun. Sewaktu dulu Kakek pernah memintanya membantu mengurus perkebunan stroberi saja dia selalu menolak dan berlagak sok sibuk mentang-mentang usaha toko barang elektroniknya sedang jaya. Jangan-jangan dia merencanakan sesuatu.
Ternyata sore itu terbukti kecurigaanku benar. Aku berhasil ‘nguping’ pembicaraan antara Kakek dan Om Emil dari balik pintu kamar. Isi pembicaraan tersebut intinya adalah pamanku itu membujuk Kakek untuk menjual perkebunan stroberi lengkap dengan seluruh isinya. Sedangkan Om Emil minta bagian paling besar karena ia ingin menyekolahkan anaknya ke Inggris, jadi butuh biaya banyak. Dari semua cucu Kakek, memang hanya anaknya Om Emil dan Tante Hetty lah yang belum jadi Sarjana. Handi namanya, dia sebentar lagi akan menamatkan pendidikan SMU. Padahal setahuku Handi tak pernah ingin kuliah di luar negeri. Dia itu kan ‘Anak Mami’ banget. Jadi mana bisa jauh dari keluarga. Tapi sepertinya Kakek akan mengabulkan permintaan pamanku itu.
Tiap kali kutanyakan alasan yang sesungguhnya kenapa Kakek bersikeras mau ‘melepas’ perkebunan miliknya, dia tak pernah memberitahu jawaban yang sesungguhnya, padahal aku sudah tahu. Sewaktu aku mencoba menceritakan hal yang sebenarnya pada Mama dan Om Dadang (adik kandung Mama) mereka tidak percaya. Ingin sekali rasanya aku dapat membuktikan kebenaran itu sebelum terlambat. Tapi bagaimana caranya? Aku tidak tahu.

Calon pembeli perkebunan sudah tiba. Dia datang dari pulau seberang untuk membicarakan tentang harga. Meski dengan perasaan berat aku ikut menyambutnya. Lalu Kakek memperkenalkan aku pada orang beralis tebal itu. Sepertinya dia orang yang baik. Meskipun garis wajah itu terlihat tegas namun ia tampak ramah dan murah senyum. Menurut ibuku orang tersebut seminggu yang lalu sudah pernah datang sewaktu aku sedang bekerja. Dia kesini bersama dua orang asisten dan sopir pribadi untuk melihat-lihat perkebunan, kolam ikan serta restoran. Karena ramai pengunjung maka kemudian dia tertarik untuk memilikinya.
Sepanjang obrobal bisnis antara Kakek dan orang itu hanya Om Emil yang ikut nimbrung. Dia bersemangat sekali ingin membantu untuk mendapatkan harga terbaik. Tentu saja, karena uang itu yang nanti akan masuk ke kantongnya. Pembicaraan tersebut dilakukan di dalam ruangan kedap suara yang merupakan kantor pribadi Kakek.
Aku menunggu dengan gelisah. Segenap pikiranku berharap calon pembeli itu mengurungkan niatnya. Mama, Papa, Om Dadang, istrinya Om Dadang, Kak Angga, Kak Revan dan Kak Amel (adik sepupuku) juga kelihatan cemas. Tante Hetty dan Handy sepertinya juga gelisah, meski aku tak tahu mereka gelisah karena apa.
Setelah hampir dua jam kami menunggu, akhirnya Kakek, Om Emil dan orang dari pulau seberang itu keluar dari ruang rapat. Muka mereka tampak sumringah seperti orang bisnis yang sama-sama menang. Apakah bisnisnya sudah deal? Itu berarti kebun stroberi, kolam ikan dan restoran hanya akan menjadi kenangan.
Ini tidak bisa dibiarkan. Aku harus mencegahnya. Akan tetapi tak boleh ada orang rumah yang tahu. Ketika orang beralis seperti semut berbaris itu menunjukkan gelagat ingin pergi, aku segera bergegas dengan sepeda motor menuju ke pintu gerbang depan untuk mencegatnya. Gerbang besar itu jaraknya lumayan jauh sebab rumah Kakek memiliki pekarangan yang luas.
“Stop!” sepeda motorku menghadang mobil mewah pengusaha itu.
Nampak sang sopir agak kaget dan keheranan. “Ada apa, Non?” tanya si sopir.
Aku mengetuk kaca mobil di pintu belakang. Lalu kaca tersebut perlahan terbuka. “Maaf Pak Marzel, boleh saya bicara sebentar dengan Bapak?” tanyaku.
“Lho, ada apa Ririn? Apa ada barang saya yang tertinggal di rumah Kakekmu?” dia bertanya balik dengan ramah.
“Tidak, tapi ada hal penting yang ingin saya tanyakan. Maaf kalau cara saya kurang sopan. Tolong beri waktu sebentar saja,”
Orang itu terdiam sejenak seperti sedang berpikir. “Oke lah, saya kira tak ada salahnya meluangkan waktu sejenak. Tapi dimana kita akan bicara?”
“Kalau itu saya tidak tahu. Terserah Bapak saja yang memutuskan,” kataku.
Dia tertawa kecil. “Begini saja, saya kan menginap di hotel dekat sini. Di depan hotel itu ada restoran seafood. Nah kita bertemu disana saja, ya?”
“Baiklah…” dan sepeda motorku langsung meluncur ke lokasi itu.
Tak lama kemudian kami sudah duduk saling berhadapan. Tanpa banyak basa-basi aku menanyakan apakah orang yang bernama Pak Marzel tersebut jadi membeli perkebunan Kakek atau tidak. Ternyata jadi. Setelah itu aku memintanya sedemikian rupa untuk membatalkan pembelian itu, namun ia menolak dengan cara yang sangat halus tapi tegas. Pembicaraan tak berlangsung lama, sebab tak ada lagi yang ingin kubicarakan. Aku pun segera pamit untuk pulang.
“Hey, jangan terlalu bersedih ya, Nak. Hati-hati di jalan. Semoga harimu menyenangkan,” Meski enggan membatalkan pembelian perkebunan milik Kakek, raut muka Pak Marzel tetap menunjukkan rasa penyesalan yang tulus.

Perkebunan stroberi Kakek akhirnya sudah berganti pemilik. Meski demikian aku masih dapat berjalan-jalan dengan bebas di tempat itu karena khusus untuk semua keluarga Kakek, Pak Marzel yang baik hati tidak mengenakan biaya masuk. Dia bahkan menganggap kami seperti keluarga. Para petani yang bekerja disana pun tetap menghormatiku walau mereka tahu bahwa Kakek bukan lagi bos mereka.
Sekarang pasti Om Emil merasa puas, sebab rencananya berjalan dengan baik. Ugh! Sebal sekali rasanya kalau mengingat dia. Kenapa juga aku tak dapat berbuat banyak untuk mempertahankan perkebunan Kakek? Parahnya lagi, anak-anak kandung maupun menantu lainnya Kakek tak ada yang berani menentang keinginan Om Emil. Aku sudah gagal menyadarkan Kakek kalau di balik mulut manisnya Om Emil sebenarnya dia itu cuma menginginkan uang. Dan uang tersebut yang akan dibagi-bagikan siang ini dalam rapat keluarga.
Semua anak termasuk menantu dan cucu-cucu berkumpul di ruang keluarga rumah Kakek. Kami duduk di atas sofa berbahan kulit asli yang masih kelihatan dalam kondisi sangat baik meski usianya sudah puluhan tahun. Dari semua kepala yang ada di ruangan itu hanya Om Emil yang tampak paling bersemangat, seperti orang yang baru memenangkan suatu perlombaan dan akan mendapat hadiah utama.
Aku sempat berpesan pada Mama, kalau nanti dapat ‘bagian’, maka bagian itu harus dikembalikan atau setidaknya disimpan untuk keperluan Kakek. Pokoknya jangan dipakai seperser pun selain untuk kepentingan Kakek. Untunglah sejak awal Mama memang tidak terobsesi dengan uang tersebut.
Tak lama kemudian Kakek datang dari arah kantor pribadinya. Seorang laki-laki berpakaian rapi dengan dasi mengikuti langkahnya. Ia membawa sebuah koper berukuran lumayan besar. Mungkin koper itu berisi uang hasil penjualan perkebunan yang akan diserahkan pada Om Emil. Entah kapan pria itu tiba. Yang jelas aku tidak mengenalinya. Seluruh anggota keluarga bertanya-tanya siapa gerangan orang tersebut.
Sebelum rapat dimulai, Kakek memperkenalkan laki-laki yang bekerja di sebuah kantor pengacara itu sebagai orang yang dipercaya untuk mengurus surat wasiat.
“Apa? Surat wasiat? Apa maksudnya?” tanya Om Emil, mengagetkan seisi ruangan dengan suara yang mendadak lantang, seperti tidak terima dengan keputusan itu. Dia kelihatan bingung. Aku sama bingungnya.
Lalu pria paruh baya berdasi itu membuka koper. Isinya ternyata bukan uang melainkan hanya beberapa lembar kertas. Kemudian ia mulai menjelaskan sesuatu. Dari awal hingga akhir aku memperhatikan kata-katanya dengan seksama. Mulutku seakan gagu, tak tahu harus berkata apa. Namun perasaanku sungguh lega. Kakek telah membagi-bagikan warisan secara adil di dalam surat wasiat tersebut. Jadi itu berarti Om Emil gagal menguasai uang hasil penjualan perkebunan.
“Tapi Pa, bukankah Papa sudah setuju dengan pembicaraan kita beberapa waktu yang lalu?” tanya Om Emil dengan muka tidak puas.
“Ya, aku telah setuju untuk menjual perkebunanku. Tapi aku tidak pernah menyetujui idemu yang lain,” jawab Kakek dengan santai.
Kakek mulai menandatangani surat wasiat itu, disusul oleh para ahli waris.
“Kamu kuliahkan Handi disini saja, biar cucu-cucuku yang lain tidak iri…” kata Kakek pada Om Emil yang nampak loyo. Aku tersenyum ke arah Kakek, dan dia membalas senyumannku penuh arti. *** (tamat).
