Gunung Sinabung Meletus
Gunung Sinabung Meletus – Setelah terlelap 400 tahun, Gunung Sinabung ‘batuk-batuk’ sejak Sabtu 28 Agustus lalu. Asap hitam dan debu vulkanik pun dimuntahkan gunung tertinggi di Sumatera Utara ini. Dalam foto terlihat asap bercampur debu begitu tebal dan berwarna kehitaman keluar dari bibir kawah gunung dengan ketinggian 2.460 meter di atas permukaan laut itu. Untuk melihat galeri foto letusan Gunung Sinabung, klik di sini. Sinabung yang dikategorikan gunung kategori B itu ternyata menyimpan ancaman besar di dalam perutnya. Inilah yang menyebabkan mereka yang tinggal di dekat gunung kategori B di sejumlah wilayah Indonesia, juga ikut cemas.
Sejumlah ahli sebelumnya sudah menyebutkan bahaya di sekitar Sinabung itu. Gunung Sinabung Meletus yang terbentuk sesudah letusan Gunung Toba, yang membentuk kaldera danau toba itu, tak begitu jauh letaknya dari patahan aktif Sumatera. Foto-foto satelit jelas memperlihatkan dekatnya patahan dengan posisi Sinabung. Sekitar 26 ribu warga yang tinggal di kaki gunung terpaksa mengungsi ke Brastagi dan Kaban Jahe. Infeksi Saluran Pernafasan Atas (ISPA) dan iritasi mata menjadi penyakit yang umum di derita para pengungsi.
