“Membacalah, Karena Kita Umat Membaca”
Pernahkah Anda menganggap bahwa “membaca” itu hanya sekadar hobi? Kalau benar, berarti persepsi Anda tentang membaca selama ini adalah salah. Membaca adalah “kebutuhan”, bukan sebatas hobi. Bahkan menurut Dr. Raghib As-Sirjani dalam bukunya Iqra’ Laa budda an Taqra’. Al-Qir’ah Minhaj al-Hayah, membaca adalah way of life (minhaj al-hayah).
Bukan hal yang kebetulan jika Allah menurunkan wahyu pertama-Nya dengan perintah “membaca”: Iqra’! Padahal, kewajiban manusia kepada Rabb-nya adalah “ibadah”: penghambaan dan pengabdian (Qs. al-Dzariyat: 56). Allah menginginkan agar umat Islam menjadi “umat yang gemar membaca” (ummatun qari’atun). Karena ibadah pun pada hakikatnya harus didasari dengan proses membaca: membaca dasar ibadah, hakikat ibadah, hikmah ibadah, tujuan ibadah, dlsb. Artinya, membaca itu adalah segala-galanya.
Bagaimanakah selayaknya seorang Muslim membaca? Seberapa banyak dia harus membaca? Syeikh ‘Abdul Halim Mahmoud, mantan Grand Sheikh Al-Azhar sekaligus sufi yang dianggap wali oleh masyarakat Mesir menjelaskan di dalam bukunya Al-Qur’an fi Syahr al-Qur’an bahwa yang dibaca itu adalah segala yang edukatif, bernilai tarbiyah. Karena, Allah menyatakan dalam surah al-‘Alaq dengan kata ‘Iqra’ bissmi rabbika’, bukan Iqra’ bismillah’. Artinya, bacalah segala bacaan atas nama Rabb (‘Tuhan Sang Pendidik Terbaik’) yang memberikan tarbiyah (‘pendidikan, edukasi). Jadi, tidak asal baca. Apa yang kita baca harus edukatif. Maka novel picisan, majalah-majalah vulgar, buku-buku porno, dan surat-surat kabar yang menampilkan pornografi dan pornoaksi adalah bacaan yang tidak tarbawi, tidak edukatif, tidak mendidik. Dan tentu saja bertentangan dengan tujuan “membaca” yang diinginkan oleh Sang Rabb.
Kita membaca, menurut Syeikh Halim, seluas “ciptaan” Allah. Karena firman-Nya menjelaskan “al-ladzi khalaqa”: yang telah menciptakan. Jadi, seluruh ciptaan Allah harus dibaca, dicermati, ditelaah dan direnungkan dengan baik dan intens. Untuk apa? Agar proses membaca itu tidak sia-sia. Tumbuhan harus dibaca; hewan harus dibaca; langit harus dibaca; udara harus dibaca; apalagi buku, majalah, koran, dan yang lainnya. Bahkan menurut Allah, diri kita pun harus dibaca. Diri harus dilihat ‘ke dalam’, agar bisa difahami, di-muhasabah, diperbaiki dan diarahkan.
Saya pikir, orang yang tidak mau membaca sejatinya ‘berkhianat’ kepada Allah. Ya, ‘berkhianat’. Karena dia tidak melaksanakan perintah-Nya yang pertama, Iqra’. Bukan hanya itu. Berarti dia juga ikut andil dalam menenggelamkan cahaya Al-Qur’an: cahaya kemajuan dan peradaban umat Islam. Masih malas juga membaca?!
“Ya Allah, jadikanlah kami umat yang keranjingan membaca. Membaca firman-Mu: yang terhampar mau pun yang tertulis. Jadikanlah bacaan kami bacaan yang produktif, konstruktif dan edukatif. Ya Rabb, kami ingin kejayaan umat ini kembali. Kami ingin peradaban kami bersemi lagi. Ya, peradaban buku: Al-Qur’an dan Sunnah Nabi-Mu.” []

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
