Cerita ini bukanlah cerita Cinderella biasa. Ini kisah sepenggal kehidupan seorang perempuan yang beralih ke masa dewasa dalam usaha pencapaian kebahagiaan.
Di usianya yang menginjak dua puluh delapan tahun, Saras Ratiban baru menyadari status single ternyata kurang menguntungkan di masyarakat Indonesia. Berdasarkan fakta temuannya itu dan data statistik usia menikah di keluarganya, takut dicap perawan tua, Saras berusaha dengan segala cara, baik cara yang masuk akal yang ia pelajari dari majalah-majalah wanita maupun cara-cara yang di luar nalarnya sebagai perempuan yang selalu berpikir logis.
Tiga tahun setelah usahanya yang cukup gigih tanpa ada tanda-tanda keberhasilan, dia berada dalam puncak kejenuhan. Saras memutuskan untuk memulai perjalanan sebagai backpacker ke Eropa bersama sahabat yang baru dikenalnya satu tahun terakhir di tempat kursus. Perjalanan itu benar-benar intermezzo dalam hidupnya yang menyenangkan dan penuh petualangan, setidaknya sebelum sahabatnya Vanny berubah menjadi frenemy, teman tapi musuh. Di tengah kesedihan karena dikhianati seseorang yang selama setahun menjadi tempat curhatnya itu, secara tidak sengaja saat berusaha menghindar dari kejaran pelukis jalanan di Montmartre, dia melakukan tindakan nekat yang membuatnya bertemu dengan Stephane.
Tekanan sosial yang sangat tinggi di Indonesia pada perempuan usia 30an yang belum menikah, kisah cinta yang berliku-liku dan bertemu beberapa lelaki yang hanya menambah kekecewaannya akan cinta serta harapannya yang tidak kunjung menjadi kenyataan, membuat ia nyaris mencoba bunuh diri.
Hingga akhirnya Saras belajar untuk pasrah dan ikhlas, dan sadar, sama seperti kesalahan yang banyak dilakukan perempuan, selama ini dia mengejar hubungan hanya karena impian ingin segera menikah dan melenyapkan status “perawan tua” dan bukannya karena ingin mengejar kebahagian sejati. Di saat kepasrahan yang dalam, semangat menikmati hidup dan memahami arti kebahagiaan sejati itulah, ia bertemu dengan lelaki dari masa lalunya, lelaki yang akhirnya ia sadari telah dikirim Tuhan untuk menjadi pasangan hidupnya.
